William Hunter has been a professional studio wood artist since 1969. He was founding director of the American Association of Woodturners and, subsequently, founding director of the Woodturning Center. More than 100 pieces of his work are in 25 museum collections across the nation. In 2005 the Long Beach Museum of Art honored Hunter with a thirty-five year retrospective and book, Transforming Vision. That same year he received a lifetime achievement award from the Collectors of Wood Art.
