East Indian Rosewood

This Wing Bowl was made from a crotch section of East Indian Rosewood. East Indian Rosewood is native to India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia but grows naturally around costal Central and South Florida. Heartwood of East Indian Rosewood can vary from a golden brown to a deep purplish brown, with amber streaks. The wood will darken some with age. This piece showcases the beautiful color variations and contrast with the light creamy sapwood along with the chatoyance of the crotch wood figure.

I have always had a love of nature and with that came my love of wood. I love everything about wood, rough or smooth it possesses a warm welcome feel with its endless earthy color variations and the swirling grain patterns of burls and knotty woods. All of the pieces I create are one of a kind with their own unique features. I never cease to be amazed by the incredible amount of beauty to be found as I create a new turning. My goal in my artistic turning is to bring out this beauty which God and nature has provided and create something that showcases and enhances the natural beauty of the wood for others to enjoy for years to come.
I do not cut down trees for the purpose of woodturning. The wood I use is reclaimed or rescued. By that I mean wood that was saved from the landfill, or the mulch chipper or just being left to rot in the woods. It comes from trees that were cut down because of age, damage, or they became a danger to their surroundings.
