About Cheetau Safaris
- Owner/Manager: Werner van der Walt
- Co-owner: Carmen van der Walt

From an early age, Werner and Carmen had different visions for the future, but their shared love for the bush gave life to CHEETAU SAFARIS. They cherish working with people from around the world and treat every client like family.

- “We see every client who hunts with Cheetau Safaris as family. We have a saying: ‘You arrive as a client, but you leave as family.’ Our sons are part of Cheetau, and when they have time off, they work with us.”

- When they started the business in 2008, Werner already had hunting experience, growing up in a hunting family. Following Werner’s father’s passing in 2008, they began hunting full-time. Werner completed his Outfitters and Professional Hunter (PH) licenses at the end of 2008, and they began promoting in 2009. Carmen earned her PH license in 2018 after years of driving for Werner. She still helps out and also hunts with clients.

- In 2023, their youngest son Tyler joined as full-time cameraman. He loves his role, and clients appreciate him. If you hunt with Cheetau Safaris, he will be with you, helping to create your hunting memories.

Location and footprint
- Cheetau Safaris is based 20 km outside the town of Boshoff in the Free State Province, about a 40-minute drive from Kimberley Airport. The base cover is over 7,000 acres with more than 30 species of African wildlife. We have the right to hunt all over South Africa, but within the Free State, we have access to over 200,000 acres. We also have concessions in Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Experience and offerings
- While we primarily hunt in South Africa, we tailor experiences to meet our clients’ needs.
- Cheetau Safaris offers day trips, cultural village visits, national parks (including the Big 5), and spa experiences to enhance your “African Experience.”
- Evenings are enjoyed under the stars around the campfire with a drink in hand. These moments are special as we share and listen to hunting stories, helping everyone get to know each other. We have a great chef who prepares meals; we cater to game meat lovers as well as vegetarians.

We look forward to hosting you and take pride in making every trip memorable.

Rhino hunt permit requirements (South Africa)
- Please note the requirements to obtain a permit to hunt a rhino in South Africa.

Important eligibility criteria
- The hunter must have hunted at least two of the Big 5 animals. The Big 5 animals are: Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, and Rhino.
- Alternatively, for permits under the “Dangerous Seven” category, include Hippo and Nile Crocodile when qualifying for CITES-permit eligibility.

- If the bidder has hunted any two of those Big 5 animals (Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Buffalo), they will be eligible to apply for a permit to hunt a rhino.
