20 hrs. 40 min. Our Flight in the Friendship. The American Girl, First Across the Atlantic by Air, Tells Her Story, Amelia Earhart’s personal copy with piece of fabric from the Friendship.

New York: G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1928. Author’s Autograph Edition, Limited to 150 copies, signed by the author, of which this is copy Number 59. Contains, as issued by the publisher, a small silk U.S. flag taken by Miss Earhart across the Atlantic in the Friendship, within a plastic envelope mounted to the front pastedown endpaper. This copy bears Miss Earhart’s Ex Libris label “From the Library of Amelia Earhart” on the front free endpaper. In addition, the book includes an actual artifact from this historic flight: a 2 X 2 in. (50 X 50 mm) section of fabric from the Friendship, purchased from The Smithsonian Aerospace Museum in the 1970s.

Quarto (9 7/8 X 6 ½ in., 257 X 166 mm). 374 pages. ¾ maroon cloth over paper-covered boards ruled in gilt, spine lettered in gilt. Illustrated with photographs. Very Good, with sun fading along the upper front board, and slight handling. Lacks slipcase.

Miss Earhart was asked to accompany pilot Wilmer Stultz and copilot/mechanic Louis Gordon on the flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Although Earhart was not the pilot of this flight, she was the first woman to travel by air across the Atlantic and instantly became an international celebrity. The aircraft departed Trepassey Harbor, Newfoundland on June 17, 1928, landing at Burry Port, Wales exactly 20 hours and 40 minutes later.
