There once was a piece of wood
It didn't look quite like it should
So I turned it and burned it and sprayed it and
displayed it and now it looks pretty good

Woodturners, we like to make bowls
"No more bowls!" Exclaimed Betty Scarpi-no
So I added some holes and gave it some soul and now
it is much less a "bowl"

A statement on artist and piece.
Nurture is something we need.
Without teachings and friends and inspirations this
bowl would have stayed rather bleak.

About Dan
Dan Zobel is a woodturner from Bucks County in Pennsylvania. He studied under Mark Sfirri and Alphonse Mattia at Bucks Community College and IUP. "Both of these individuals are huge influences in my work. Over the past 10 years my turnings have evolved from functional furniture elements to more sculptural and stand alone pieces. I enjoy including a bit on whimsy in my pieces as well as texture and color. Though I love natural wood, sometimes it needs a little push to stand out amongst the crowd. Collaborating and critiquing with other artists is also a huge part of my work and exploratory processes."
