Showcasing the beauty of koa, one of the most beautiful woods in the world, this five piece nested bowl set is turned from a single log, conserving as much of the wood as possible. The koa was grown on property owned by Rick Ralston, a local icon and the founder of Crazy Shirts and RIX Island Wear.

The intricate beauty of wood grain has always fascinated Andy. After learning the basics in woodturning about twenty years ago through a class at the local Woodcraft store, he was hooked, and what was a hobby blossomed into a full time passion and profession. Andy connected with the Honolulu Woodturners Club and the American Association of Woodturners, where he was able to hone his skills by learning from others both locally and internationally. His work was sought by galleries and can now be found in notable collections around the world. It also gives Andy a great sense of satisfaction knowing that a tree that stood for decades rooted in the ground can live on indefinitely in turned form as fine art. While he enjoys many aspects of turning, producing natural edge bowls gives Andy the ability to integrate the organic beauty of wood into an aesthetically pleasing form. Not wanting to waste the inside of the vessel, he cores multiple natural-edge nested pieces from one piece of wood.
