Custom made mountain dulcimer. The instrument is essentially a fretted zither traditional to the southern Appalachian mountains of the eastern United States consisting of a narrow fingerboard attached to a larger soundbox underneath. Never widespread and found only in scattered pockets of tradition, the dulcimer since the 1950s has gained popularity outside the mountains and is today widely used by both amateur and professional musicians for primarily folk-based repertoires. Measures 37" x 8". One of the strings have broken off, but can be fixed. There is a crack between the top two sound holes. Some minor scrapes on back of dulcimer. Otherwise in very good condition for it's age. From the collection of Ken McMeans. 20% of the proceeds will benefit the Jeremy Wilson Foundation.
