FIELD, Marshall. (1834-1906) American entrepreneur and the founder of Marshall Field and Company, the extremely successful Chicago-based department store chain. The quotes "Give the lady what she wants" and "The customer is always right" are attributed to Field. The University of Chicago was founded by both Field and New York's John D. Rockefeller. This brief typewritten letter is dated September 6, 1945 and refers to a memorial booklet honoring Joe Connolly, president of King Features Syndicate. It is on personal letterhead bearing a Park Avenue, New York return address. Quarto, one page. Fine condition.
